Floribunda

17 Topic: musings

I just found my next place! It’s on Floribunda Avenue in Burlingame. I can’t wait to tell people that I live on Floribunda Avenue. You see, in Portuguese, "Flor" means flower and "Bunda" means ass. Floribunda sounds like "Flower and Ass"

Butterfly Fries

17 Topic: musings

I wonder what butterfly fries are…

gas gauge Thanks to Joel, I now know of someone else (Jenny) who is also anal about keeping her gas tank full.

I have to admit that I draw the line at the 1/2 tank mark though. If the needle drops below that, I start to panic.

I must be afraid of running out of gas during my commute to work. All four miles of it

The Pump Incident Reactions

19 Topic: musings

I’m not sure what’s worse, the fact that Joel thinks I’m crazy or the fact that when I tell people here about my bottles bubbling over, they have their own bubbly bottle stories to tell. Why didn’t this happen in Rochester? It was pretty hot there as well but I never heard of this phenomenon until now!

The Pump Incident

19 Topic: musings

I’ve been complaining for a while that my house is way too hot and now I finally have proof. Not only did the candle that Su gave me melt, I also started noticing some heat induced spillage around the house.

It all started in the bathroom. My shampoo bottle has a pump dispenser and it started leaking. I thought the bottle was defective and had a hole in the bottom so I put it down sideways. The next day, there were bubbles coming out of the pump. I didn’t think anything of it. Two days later, I noticed a pool of soap around my soap bottle in the kitchen. That’s when it hit me! The heat was either causing the bottles to expand, and then shrink, causing the liquids to spew out or it was somehow doing the same thing to the liquid itself. Either way, I took it as a good sign that I need to move. Soon!

Colorful Dress Inlaid with Pearls

05 Topic: musings

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: the Chinese have the best show titles!
I never got to watch Vague Girl Disturbing World but now I’m intrigued by a show called Colorful Dress Inlaid with Pearls.

On another note, I didn’t like kettle korn. Sorry Tuna!

Creative Writing

31 Topic: musings

I am very impressed by how clever some spam mail writers are (I wonder if That would be your title, as in Bob Smith, Mass Electronic Message Writer or Jill Jones, eMarketing Messaging Publisher). The real amazing thing is that there is a huge group of people thinking of ways to write deceiving email headers so that innocent recipients are fooled into reading the message. Here are some examples of actual subjects on junk emails I’ve received:

did you hear about amy?
Hey sis, check this out
What time do you want me to come over?
Tonya said you were talking about me!!
Order confirmation #1237
I got the info you wanted
Is 10pm good for you?

And this leaves me wondering, after people get tricked into reading the email itself, do they ever actually sign up or buy any of the services?

The Design of Insects

16 Topic: musings

spiderladybugI hate spiders! I think a lot of people feel the same way.

And that’s where good design comes in. If spiders looked cuter, say they looked more like ladybugs, I’d not be as scared of them.

And what about usability testing the design of the spider or doing some market research to test the design acceptance? I’m sure the test subjects would have suggested shortening the spider’s legs, removing the fuzzy stuff, maybe making their bodies a nice shade of red, and why not add polka dots while you’re at it…

I must give credit to god’s design team (or whoever created us), they did an excellent job for the most part. But I am willing to bet that, on the day spiders were created, an engineer was in charge of design.

Vague Girl Disturbing World

18 Topic: musings

Every time I look through the listing of TV shows on my digital cable, the same show catches my attention: Vague Girl Disturbing World. Unfortunately, the show is in Chinese (I think) so I have no idea what it’s about. The strange thing is that every time, I have to remind myself not to change channels to watch it! Weird…
