Being Sasquatch

Sasquatch

Roland Smith. Hyperion 1999, Paperback, 188 pages, $5.99

I got a haircut today and then went grocery shopping. I wasn’t until I was checking out that I realized that my white shirt was covered in tiny little hairs. I can’t believe I was walking around like that!

Safeway delivers

14 Topic: shopping

I miss Webvan. A lot. So when Safeway and Albertson’s started home delivery, I was pretty excited. I then tried to order stuff several times but every time I would get pissed off with their inferior (compared to Webvan) UI and would give up. I finally broke down and placed an order with Safeway since I needed a ton of stuff. They were supposed to deliver between noon and 2:00. It’s already 2:20. Not a good sign.

Jaguar
I just installed Jaguar on my home computer so now I’m transferring all my files back. I really should be working on my freelance project but I always find excuses to procrastinate. Updating my OS seemed like a necessity. Besides, Tim came over last night so we could work but we ended up talking for most of the time and drinking too much brew (as Tim would put it).

flip-flops
Ivan is back from Europe! I forgot that we got married before he left. I also forgot that he was going to give me his flip-flops. They are the nicest flip-flops I have ever seen. See, Brazilians are born with flip-flops. It’s a national obsession. And I can never find nice ones here. Havaianas are probably the most popular brand. I like the Brazil ones they created for the World Cup. Grendene is also popular and they just teamed up with Gisele to design some flip-flops with her name. Apparently she asked them to add heels to the flip-flops. I think they look a little odd.

Berkeley

08 Topic: out and about

wigsWe went to Berkeley yesterday for a friend’s birthday dinner party. His place was awesome. Lots of cool, old stuff. Lots of unexpected stuff. Like a polaroid of the toilet hanging on the wall above the toilet.

His girlfriend has all these wigs so all us girls couldn’t resist it and had to try them on. I actually looked ok as a redhead which was really surprising. I looked just ok with the blue wig. But I looked more than terrible in the platinum blond curly bob wig. That was definitely not the look for me.

Anyway, trying them on reminded me how fun wigs and dressing up can be. And with Halloween around the corner, maybe I’ll have to buy some wigs for myself.

Bad Fishes, Bad Fishes

06 Topic: food, out and about

I’m snacking on pretzel goldfish and I have found three (three!) trios of goldfish having a threesome. That just seems wrong.

I had dinner with an old friend last night. Everything is going well until I asked him about his live-in girlfriend. His response: “Uh, actually, we split up recently”. Ok, can you pass the bread please?

We then headed over to the pub for drinks and this girl was sitting at our table. I had met her and her boyfriend before. So I asked her where her boyfriend was. Her response: “He dumped me a couple of weeks ago”. You would think I would have learned the first time around.

Not Exactly Mona Lisa Smiling

03 Topic: musings

paluI swear I have the biggest teeth in the world but I still like this picture — it means a lot to me! This photo was taken with one of my oldest friends while I was in Brazil. I have known Paula since we were in 3rd grade. We were at the mall shopping together (she’s a fashion stylist so there’s no better shopping companion) and we decided to check out the arcade area where we spent many hours flirting with guys when we were eleven or twelve. That’s when we saw this photo booth and thought we should get our pictures taken. The only problem? The photos could only be printed in the style of famous painters. It was hilarious! So we went with Leonardo who seemed to be the least strange in terms of his strokes (Joel, don’t go there).

That Was Wrong, Just Wrong

The Sweetest Thing

Sony Pictures 2002, DVD, $9.95

I think I just watched the worst movie ever. The Sweetest Thing needs to be renamed. The title is misleading. It was awful! And the worst part? I already watched the episode of Sex & The City I had Tivoed so now I have nothing to chase it down with.
