The Hidden Dangers of Goldfish

27 Topic: complaining, food

goldfishTwo days ago, I reached for a white shirt in my closet and noticed a huge orange stain in the pocket area. I saw that the pocket was a little puffy so I peeked inside. What did I find? You guessed it. A goldfish cracker. It must have fallen in and I didn’t notice it. So, two weeks later, the grease and food coloring had caused the huge stain on my shirt. The dry cleaner said it was really hard to remove and you can still see a hint of yellow if you look very closely. I never had the illusion that goldfish was healthy natural food but stuff like this really makes you stop and think about what we feed our bodies. Anyway, I better go and check on my fake veggie hot dogs before they burn. ;-)

Brasil 1 : Turkey 0

26 Topic: life

br flagturkeyI’m sleepy. It was a shitty game despite the score. I actually got up at 4:00 am to watch it. It helped that M. came over to watch the game. He remains so calm during all Brazil games which in turn makes me feel slightly calmer. I guess it’s easier to stay calm when it’s not your team playing.

By the way, I’m wearing red shoes today. Coincidence? I think not. (I apologize to my Turkish friends in advance but I just had to bring that up).

Brazilian Women Booty

23 Topic: food, shopping

suppenkucheSomeone found my blog by searching on “Brazilian women booty”. They must have been pretty disappointed.

Friday afternoon, Lisa, Fariba and I went up to San Francisco. We decided to stay overnight at the Hotel Triton so we didn’t have to worry about getting back that same night. We met up with Walter at Place Pigalle for drinks (one of the few places where you can still smoke inside) and then had a Brazilian dinner at Terra Brazilis. We then went to some cheesy tourist-trap ballroom where there were tons of 40 year old “female entertainers” with fake boobs. I tried to persuade everyone to leave but they were a little blinded by the red velvet and gold trimmed mirrors so we had to go in. Luckily, it didn’t take too long for them to come back to their senses and to run out of there. Since they wanted to dance, I suggested we go to El Rio where we stayed until closing.

The next morning, we were really tired but shopping awaited us so we dragged ourselves out of bed. It was very cold and rainy in the city. I miss that kind of weather but Lisa and Fariba weren’t too happy. We spent most of the morning around Union Square, and then we checked out and headed over to Hayes Valley to check out some of the cool boutiques. After we had stopped at every possible store, we sat in one of the sidewalk tables at Cafe Absinthe and had a few afternoon drinks and an excellent meal. We then continued down on Hayes to Suppenkuche. Around 7:00 pm, we headed over to Fariba’s friend’s Summer Solstice cocktail party. We only stayed for about an hour since it wasn’t really happening all that much.

Greencard Is Here

18 Topic: life

greencardAs with everything else about this whole process, it got here much sooner than I had expected. Yesterday, I got this letter from the Department of Justice welcoming me and saying that I would get my greencard in a few months. At the consulate, they told me it would be 3-4 months. When I arrived here in Miami, at Immigration, they said it was more like 6-8 months. Today I got home and there was this blank envelope with something “card-shaped” inside. I figured one of my credit cards must be about to expire. Then I opened it and there it was. And it’s only been 3.5 weeks. All I can say is, I’m not complaining…

Brasil 5 : Costa Rica 2

13 Topic: life

br flagcosta ricaI went to the pub last night and there were some people there rooting for Costa Rica. They were mostly American and European. When did Costa Rica become a favorite among that crowd? Anyway, I was just bitter that they were against Brasil.

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOT

05 Topic: complaining

It is so hot today. My car’s thermometer was reading 94 degrees at 6:00 PM. I have to leave for my date in 30 minutes and I haven’t even started getting ready (I did shower though). I don’t want to leave the couch since the fan is right in front of me. If I had some sorbet, I might have had to call and cancel.

Brasil 2 : Turkey 1

03 Topic: life

br flagturkeyI didn’t get up at 2:00 AM to watch the match but I’m especially happy that we won. After dating a Turkish guy for 3+ years and hanging out around a bunch of Turkish soccer fanatics, it would have been too painful if we had lost.

Friday Lisa had a barbecue at her place. I ate way too much of the veggies and Portobello mushrooms she made especially for me.
