Insomnia

29 Topic: life

I don’t know why I’m still up. I got three hours of sleep last night. I just couldn’t fall asleep so around 5:00 am, I got up and washed my hair. After that, I slept like a baby for 3 whole hours!

Alarmed

27 Topic: complaining

The alarm "installers" have been here since 9:00 am. I’m going crazy. The house is a mess and they don’t look like they are even close to being done.

To top it all, I can’t connect to my work email and I’m supposed to be "working" from home.

Trip Prep

20 Topic: life

I am getting both excited and scared about my trip to Brazil. Excited because I will get to see my family and because Su, Nathan, Tina, and Chuck are all coming down. Scared because I have so much to do before then and I will be gone from work for such a long time and there’s tons of stuff happening around that time. I guess it’s never a good time to take vacation so I just have to accept it.

On other news, my greencard is getting closer to becoming a reality. If the lawyers agree, I’ll do consular processing which hopefully means I’ll have a greencard by this time next year. It’s about time!

yawn
I’m sooooo sleeeeeepy… I couldn’t fall asleep last night. The same thing happened Sunday night and I ended up only getting 2 hours of sleep. At least I’m working from home today.

I thought I would work out so I can wake up but I’m afraid I’ll fall off the treadmill. That’s how groggy I am right now.

Brrr

13 Topic: complaining

snowI had a huge posting all typed up yesterday with my weekend update and blogger lost it! I hate when that happens and now I really don’t feel like retyping it.

It’s cold here (for California standards, before any Rochesterians leave nasty comments about how it’s not really “cold” as long as it’s above 30).

Alarm Hell

07 Topic: complaining

I stayed home this morning so PacBell could do a homerun from the D-mark to a jack in my house (whatever that means). This is all so I can get my alarm installed.

See, the alarm guy came out several weeks ago and couldn’t install the alarm system because the phone box was too far away. I had two options: pay PacBell $120 to run a line or get digital phone from AT&T and pay $30 instead. So AT&T comes out and they tell me I can’t get digital phone because of my DSL. That’s crazy! That was last week.

Today PacBell comes in and the guy says they really should install an independent phone box for the house and he doesn’t have the equipment with him and that I should reschedule. I call them up and their next available date is Nov. 20th! And then I’ll still have to schedule a time for the alarm people to come in. I’m so regretting getting this alarm system.

Time with Tuna

04 Topic: food, out and about, shopping

Pure Brazil

Planet Rhythm 2004, Audio CD, $15.98

I can’t believe Tuna already left. Time just flew! It was great to see her again and I hope she enjoyed her trip.

Thursday, I left early to pick up Tuna from the airport and we then headed back to downtown Mountain View. We checked out our pub but it was a little dead so we ended up at F&A. It was 18 & over night so I felt like a grandma! We had both skipped dinner so we stopped by Denny’s before heading home. It’s amazing how there aren’t that many 24 hr restaurants or diners around here.

Friday, I worked from home for most of the day and then Tuna and I went shopping for the party. There were some older guys at Andronico’s who looked like they were there to pick up chicks. Very weird. The party was nice although several people couldn’t make it. I think some were afraid of driving over the Bay Bridge. Tuna became an expert at making Caipirinhas and people were drinking them as though they were lemonades.

Saturday we spent most of the day at the Stanford Mall but we didn’t buy too much stuff. We then met Su at Niebaum-Coppola for dinner. The food was great as usual. We then headed to Café Borrone to get some coffee but Su was a little freaked out by the men at the table next to us. We ended up at the pub again and made the bouncer happy since he’s totally in love with Tuna. She was very popular with the men there, especially the very short ones. Some of the people dancing were hilarious. Hopefully TT will write more about it since she took copious notes (our coasters had a “Notes:” section on the back).

Today, we woke up pretty early and I drove Tuna to the airport (after the obligatory stop at Jamba Juice). She made it back safely to Rochester and I already miss having her around. I hope Tuna and Chuck can come to Brazil in December.

Tina’s Trip

01 Topic: life

tunaTuna is arriving tonight. I am so excited, I haven’t seen her in a year!

Last night was very disappointing. I had two groups of two kids each show up between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. And I had bought so much candy since last year I almost ran out. Then, at 10:37 pm I hear a knock on the door. Two teenagers! I couldn’t believe it! But instead of getting mad at them, I just gave them almost all of the candy. Now I probably set a precedent and they’ll be again showing up late at night next year.
